BLACK CHOIR COLOGNE & MELANE & HAWA BOUSSIM

Concert

The Black Choir Cologne is a self-organised initiative by Black people from the African diaspora living in Cologne. As a community-based project, the choir seeks to empower Black individuals and foster connection through the power of voice.
Musically, the Black Choir Cologne offers a vibrant and moving blend of gospel, soul, and jazz. With powerful a cappella arrangements and heartfelt performances, they not only showcase a rich repertoire but also celebrate the depth, resilience, and beauty of Black musical traditions.
More than just a choir, the Black Choir Cologne is a living, breathing community—one that uplifts, inspires, and unites through music, with passion, energy, and purpose.

Melane, the current winner of the “Female Producer Prize 2024”, will be performing her first solo album “Mirrors & Windows” at this year’s africologneFESTIVAL in Odonien. Her first singles “Ubuntu” and “I Am I” already caused quite a stir in 2020 and 2021. No wonder, because her voice has already been appreciated by such greats as Tony Allen, Manu Dibango and Gentleman, whom she supported as a backing vocalist. Now her journey continues as a front singer with her band.

Hawa Boussim is a celebrated Burkinabe artist and singer. She passionately weaves traditional rhythms and contemporary sounds into a captivating journey. Through her singing and dancing, she explores the roots of African cultures and shares her personal approach in a rousing stage performance full of energy and joie de vivre. Together with her band, she celebrates a festival of collective emotions that transcend cultural boundaries.

Hawa Boussim plays in Cologne together with Sékou Kouyaté, Sény Conte and Dominic Quaye.

The concert is supported by the JUTTA VOGEL STIFTUNG – Preservation of Cultures in the African Deserts.
