“What did you do when you were hurt? What legacy do you want to leave behind when you leave this world?”
Qué importa el abismo poses profound questions about the wounds we carry—whether etched into the body or imprinted on the soul. It reflects on pain, resilience, and memory, suggesting that the scars we accumulate are not just remnants of the past, but also the legacy we carry into the future.
Directed by Aïda Colmenero Dïaz and inspired by the poem Qué importa el abismo by Josune de Goñi, this haunting solo performance explores the boundaries of physical and emotional perception.
The piece is part of the multidisciplinary project series She Poems. Working with female performers from across various African countries and drawing on poetry by women writers, Dïaz creates dance performances, short films, and photographic works that challenge conventional representations of African narratives. Her work highlights the creative force and visionary spirit of a new generation of African female artists.

She Poems is an international project with 40 female artists from 15 countries under the artistic direction of Aïda Colmenero Dïaz. Since 2013, She Poems has produced six contemporary dance pieces and around 20 visually powerful short films and photo series. The short films, photo exhibitions and stage works have been shown in more than 30 countries in Europe, Latin America and Africa. From their cultural and personal context, the artists of She Poems engaged in processes to transform selected poems into physical, intimate or audiovisual form-languages.
