SPOKEN WORD

SPOKEN WORD Workshop for BIPoCs - Find your voice, tell your story!

Spoken word is more than just words—it’s a powerful tool for expressing emotions, sharing experiences, and making your voice heard. In this three-hour workshop, spoken word artists Phyllis Quartey and Joanna Peprah will guide participants on a creative journey. Together, they’ll explore how to craft texts, play with language, and use the voice as a powerful instrument of self-expression. The workshop is aimed at BIPoC youth aged 14 to 17 who are curious about poetry or performance—whether they’re just starting out or already have some experience. There’s no pressure to perform. Instead, this is a safe and supportive space where participants can grow, create, and be themselves. Through creative writing exercises, group discussions, and peer exchange, the workshop offers a chance to dive into the topics that matter most to the participants—setting thoughts in motion and giving them a stage. Because: Words are powerful—let them be loud!

The number of participants is limited to 15.

Phyllis Quartey is a spoken word artist, activist and educational speaker with a focus on anti-racism and decolonisation. In her poetic works, she processes personal experiences and social injustices to promote awareness and empowerment. Her performances combine powerful language with profound messages that inspire reflection and action. In addition to her artistic work, she leads workshops on the critique of racism and colonialism. Through her art and educational work, she creates spaces for marginalised voices and social change.
