Nando Nkrumah is a German-Ghanaian artist who uses his art to promote empowerment and accessibility to spaces. To this end, he draws on a multifaceted life and the diverse perspectives of his environment and weaves them into expressive images, installations and interventions.
Nkrumah sees empowerment and imagination as central pillars of his work. His alternative narratives play with elements of science fiction, fantasy and technology. They place the diverse and complex history(ies), cultural approaches and experiences of Black people in a new, future-oriented perspective. In this way, the artist creates (afro)futuristic, utopian spaces of possibility that invite us to think and dream further. Nando Nkrumah’s artistic expression encompasses painting, drawing and digital works. He not only uses the visual form as an instrument of empowerment, but also considers the medium and the use of the exhibition space itself as effective tools to overcome barriers and reconfigure places and narratives. As part of africologneLOCAL, he is showing a selection of his works and inviting visitors, especially people from the Black and Afro-diasporic community, to Sketch & Connect together on two afternoons.
