BETWEEN THE LINES: THEATER TRANSLATION DECOLONIAL THINKING

Discussion

Translating theatre texts is a complex task. In a postcolonial context, it becomes even more challenging: how do we navigate issues of representation, tradition, and power dynamics? What responsibility do we bear in making voices—previously unheard in this country—visible within a German-speaking context? How can we reflect colonial legacies embedded in our own language, and where does a translation fall on the spectrum between “incorporation” and “exoticisation”?
This discussion with the translators of the SPUREN anthology will delve into these very questions—exploring strategies for forming translation teams and approaches to decolonial translation practices.
