DISCUSSION BETWEEN THE LINES: THEATER TRANSLATION DECOLONIAL THINKING

Discussion

Translating theater texts is a complex matter in itself. In a post-colonial context, it becomes a real challenge: how can we deal with questions of representation, tradition and power relations? How do we do justice to the responsibility of making voices that have never been heard in this country visible in a German context? How can colonial traces be reflected in our own language, and where can a translation be located on the scale between “incorporation” and “exoticization”? The discussion with the translators of the anthology SPUREN will focus on precisely these questions – as well as on strategies for forming translation teams and approaches to decolonial translation.
