AFRICAN PARTY

SUPA RICH KIDS / OULOUY

Afrikan Party is a futuristic ode to the richness and diversity of African cultures. Set in the year 2090, it follows the story of a child born and raised in the United States of Africa—a vision of unity and pride. Through this lens, Afrikan Party celebrates African lifestyles, music, fashion, and a world deeply rooted in traditions and rituals.

The Supa Rich Kids celebrate life by tracing key moments from birth to death, forging a vibrant connection between past, present, and future. Dancers from Nigeria and the Ivory Coast bring the story to life with a dynamic fusion of street dance, mime, performance, and their own unique cultural backgrounds—creating a colorful, energetic, and humorous tribute to urban African dance.

Afrikan Party explores African street dance styles, their power, expressiveness, and the narratives they carry,” says choreographer Oulouy. “These dances are still fighting for recognition in the theatre world. I want to give back to the street styles that shaped us—because they are the foundation and fuel of our creativity. I’m especially drawn to the emotional potential of movement. We want to rewrite the narrative around African street dance and open up new possibilities for future generations.”Oulouy

Born in Côte d’Ivoire and based in Barcelona, Oulouy is a dancer, choreographer, artistic director, and international masterclass instructor. His acclaimed work Black (2020), a reflection on violence and the emancipation of Black bodies, was selected for Danza a Escena 2024 and toured across Spain. His performances have been presented at leading venues including the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York, Bluma Appel in Toronto, Fabrik Potsdam, Dansens Hus Oslo, Mercat de les Flors, Teatro Principal de Palma, Journées Théâtrales de Carthage, Suzanne Dellal Centre, and Dampfzentrale Bern.
In 2022, Oulouy received nominations at both the XXIV Catalan Critics’ Awards for Performing Arts and the Dansacat Awards for Best Dancer of the Year. Afrikan Party was awarded Best Choreography at the 2023 Catalan Critics’ Awards and is now part of the choreographic archive of the New York Public Library. Oulouy is also the founder and curator of Oyofe, a festival dedicated to street dance. His latest work, Kong (2024), continues his boundary-pushing artistic journey.
